Stratford upon Avon - Shakespeares' Lair

That's me in Stratford upon Avon. Took a day trip (2 1/4hr) train from london to enjoy something different. it was really cheap train trip too. 4 for the price of 2 which worked out to be only 14 pounds return. Went with Cindy, Keng Hau and Titus.

Stratford is famous for being Shakespeares' hometown. He was born there to John the glover (someone who makes gloves). Apparently, John apart from being a glover was also an Ah Long. (loan shark) =) so while we mere mortals think Shakespeare is just a poet and writer, you will be happy to know he is also a very shrewd business man. he invested in theatre companies, made friends with performers who came to stratford and in turn they helped him when he escaped to london. anyway, by the age of 33, he was able to buy a HUGE piece of land which was later inherited by his daughter Suzannah.
pity that Shakespeare never had a male heir to carry the line. His son passed away as a child.

oh well. stratford was pretty nice. i liked it more than cambridge. maybe it was because when i went to cambridge i had to take care of some kids. this trip was more relaxing and i had cindy to entertain me.
we took a walking tour which led us to the Holy Trinity Church where shakespeare was buried, then to shakespeare house, his old home where he was born in. along the way we also visited his primary school.

it was really an enjoyable trip! =)
