The Middle Temple had an open house on 19-20 Jan 2008. Usually the premises are closed to public. For those who are not aware, ( which is most of us mere mortals) this is where the law students are trained to be Barristers in London. This is where Lenny and Valerie studied and also in UK, lawyers are not called lawyers. They are divided into Barristers and Solicitors.
This place is called the Temple as it was first built by the Knight Templars. For those who forgot. Knight Templars are monks who guide pilgrims to Jerusalem.
I think the highlight of the tour to me is visiting the dining hall as shown in Harry Potter movies. This is the dining hall of Hogwarts where students have their meals. It is really grand. I have always been really impressed by the dining hall in the movie especially when the candles hover in mid air. I always thought the set is very grand. I never thought it would even exist! =)
Anyway, all trainee barristers get to chose an inn to associate themselves with (there are 4 Inns to choose from. this is something like the different houses in secondary school in sg). Lenny and Valerie chose Middle Temple to Inner Temple cuz ..
Lenny is impressed that 1 scene from Bridget Jone's diary was shot in there
Valerie wanted to be in the same Inn as Lee Kuan Yew! hehe...
I say ... good choice to both of them! hehe.
it was a really nice day out. albeit when cheryl and i went for the mock trial for a buglar case, the 2 of us was falling asleep. How can Lenny do this everyday, i can never understand. gimme a set of numbers to crunch on anytime man!
oh oh oh , jon went for an earlier mock trial and he was part of the jury. hehe. so cute. Jon was as excited as me the entire time. hehe...
